Here's a exclusive Q&A with author Amy Huntley!

Madison rediscovers many things that she lost during her lifetime. If you could find only one lost object, what would it be and why?

I’ve never been able to keep jewelry for more than a week or two without losing it, so the back roads of my life are littered with rings, bracelets, and necklaces spanning several different time periods. Of all that lost jewelry, the piece I’d most like to find is a necklace that my sister gave me back when I was in high school. Giving it to me meant so much to her, and I lost it (probably only the second time I’d ever worn it) in my boyfriend’s car. I can’t help wondering whether it could take me back to that time. I’d love the chance to get a “hindsight” view of that period of my life.

What’s your favorite Valentine’s treat (chocolates, cinnamon hearts, conversation hearts)?

I just can’t resist chocolate. It’s a serious weakness of mine, so I’d go for that. But I love the conversation hearts, too. They take me right back to those elementary school Valentine’s Day parties. The messages on the hearts always seemed so portentous then. I believed they were just like fortune cookies—if a boy gave me one that said “You’re mine,” I thought we were destined to end up married!

Michigan gets downright frigid. What do you do to beat the chilly temps?
I spend a lot of time sitting by my fireplace. It’s my favorite place to be in winter.

What’s your favorite thing about winter?
You won’t catch me skiing—that’s for sure. I fell once several years ago, and a large guy skied straight over my back. I haven’t braved it since! What I do like, though, is watching my daughter make snowmen. I love having hot chocolate ready for her when she comes back in. Seeing the marshmallows melt in it just makes the world seem like such a safe and tidy place to be.
