Everything Austen Challenge!

I decided to join in on the fun and participate in the Jane Austen challenge! For this challenge, all you need to do is choose six things that relate to Jane Austen and complete them! The challenge runs for 6 months, from July 1, 2009 to January 1, 2010.

I wasn't a big fan of this - to me there seemed no real point of the 3 hours it was.

Now if she doesn't reverse it in time, Magnus will be her blood mate forever and she's doomed to be a blood-gulping, pasty, daylight-hating vampire. That would seriously bite.

And now, after the unfortunate slaying of the vampire leader, Sunshine, her sister Rayne, and Magnus must find the one thing that can solve her problem: the Holy Grail. They wish it were a joke but it's not. It's absolutely necessary that Sunshine gets out of this in time, because somehow she scored the hottest prom date in her school, the mouth-watering Jake Wilder. So she just can't be a vampire for the prom-let alone the rest of eternity.

Boys That Bite was a refreshing take on vampires! It varied from so many books that have vampires cut from the same exact stone. For example, in Boys That Bite, the vampires actually had to sleep. (Though the romance aspect is still there)

Boys That Bite was well written with well-rounded characters. It was smart and had comical moments. The plot took its twists and turns, I was convinced I had different parts completely figured out, but then something completely different would end up happening.

The ending sets the stage for the next book, Stake That, which I cannot wait to read!

Mandy soon finds herself not only lost in a whirlwind of a male-dominated world, but also the center of an inadvertently "constructed" love triangle. Mandy must choose between two guys who want her heart. But what's a girl to do when she wants them both?

Nailed was a fun, easy read that I enjoyed reading. Nailed wasn't a book that really wowed me though. After awhile, watching Mandy go between the two guys just got a little old to me. There's only so much you can write about a love triangle. Jennifer Laurens writing was great and kept the book flowing.

And I know covers shouldn't make a difference really, but the girl on the front looks way older than a recent high school graduate and overall, to me, it just wasn't that attractive.

I will definately be checking out other books by Jennifer Laurens!

But when the Prophet decrees that Kyra must marry her 60-year-old uncle—who already has six wives—Kyra must make a desperate choice in the face of violence and her own fears of losing her family.

This was such a compelling, powerful book of choice and rebellion. The Chosen One has such strong emotions that kept you thinking and feeling for Kyra(the main character) the entire book. With The Chosen One, there were varying shades of gray, everything wasn't just black or white. It made the book so much better.

The Chosen One was one of those books that after you read, the plot still keeps reeling in your mind. The fact that Kyra "escapes" with her books if another thing that really draws you in. The Chosen One isn't just a book, it's a story that's a long trek of emotions. It was a great read, that carries you to the end of the book, captivating you, making you read wanting more. This is a must read!

Camp!

Ok, this was officially my favorite Jennifer Echols book yet! I absolutely loved it! I actually wish it was longer, with everything going on in the plot, MANY more pages would've kept me interested and loving every sentence. Going Too Far was very well written and had an intense plot. The story as a whole was very strong, but had humorous parts along with twists and turns along the way.

All the characters were real and weren't flawless which is part of what made it such an amazing book. From page one, you see all the characters, particularily Meg and John grow and work on overcoming those flaws. I absolutely loved Meg's character. When you first start reading, all you see is this blue-haired, punk girl, and as you read you find out there's much more to the attitude and appearance. John's another character from the first page he's introduced, you just fall for him.

I honestly don't know what else to say, Going Too Far had everything going for it a good book should have! Definately go grab yourself a copy!

When a romantic Shakespeare scene-reading with her crush turns humiliating, Jan feels more starcrossed than Juliet. She never seems to say the right thing around guys, unlike her best It Girl friend, who knows the moves and lines to catch an older, adorable, sophisticated boyfriend. If only Jan could write and star in her own reality . . .
But in spit of feeling that the forces of the universe have it in for her, Jan's about to learn that in lilfe and romance, being a Not It Girl has some major rewards.

This was a pretty good book that was well written. The whole story is about the main character Jan (whose name is pronounced Yahn) trying to get with Josh. It wasn't exactly my thing. Overall it was a good plot, but sometimes along the way I found myself a little annoyed by Jan's best friend. While trying to act more mature, she just looked so much more immature. Plus, Jan herself didn't always make the smartest moves. I liked Jan's little "inserts" of what she would like to happen, I thought they were entertaining and lightened the book a bit more.
Confessions Of a Not It Girl was a page turner, and kept you wanting to know what happened next.

WOW! What can I say? Ally Carter once again writes a fascinating story continuing the Gallagher Girls story! I found myself reading straight through, unable to put it down! With each book, the series just gets better and better!

Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover is very well written, and in this book you see the girls and others grow more and more. Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover is action packed, and leaves you questioning the true intent of characters.

This is DEFINATELY a must read that leaves readers impatiently waiting for Book 4!

Heaven couldn't be a phone bank, could it?

Charlotte Usher discovers that the afterlife isn't quite what she pictured when she's forced to intern at a hotline for troubled teens. Before she can officially cross over, she'll have to be a source of guidance for one such teen. The problem is she doesn't have much advice to offer since dying hasn't exactly boosted her confidence level.

But when Hawthorne High's leading, love-to-hate cheerleader Petula and her gothic little sis' Scarlet find themselves suddenly resting-in-peace in comas, Charlotte's opportunity to save them will prove to be the risk of a lifetime-for all of them.

Ghostgirl:Homcoming was a great continuation of Charlotte's story! Once again, Tonya Hurley spins an interesting perspective of the afterlife, and offers another witty and entertaining story. Book 2 draws you into the story a lot quicker than Book 1 and has more depth, just making the story that much better.

As the book goes on, you see characters, Charlotte especially, grow and as that happens, they really grow on you as a reader. You see some expected changes in characters while also juggling the true intent of others.

The ending seemed a bit abrupt, but it still was a great book! Out of the two books, I'd have to say this one was probably my favorite.

Once again, the cover is amazing and the pages are neat designs on them.

Ally Carter!

So I just got back from Ally Carter's Book Signing a little while ago, it was great.
I got Don't Judge a Girl By Her Cover (Which I'm going to read probably straight through as soon as I post this.. maybe)! Now I'm waiting for her new book, Heist Society, which comes out in February.




I also decided I should stop going in Half Price Books. On the way home from Ally Carter's signing I stopped at a Half Price Books, I was planning on maybe getting a book or two. I left with 12 (and they only cost my 7.50 plus tax!)

Derek is clearly the boy Marisa's been waiting for, but there's just one problem. He has a girlfriend. Nash is wrong for Marisa, but he wants to take care of her. As if life wasn't complicated enough, Marisa's also dealing with overcoming a major problem from her past, a family that's falling apart, and a best friend who won't stop talking to sketchy guys online. Only the anonymous DJ, who has the school's ear with his underground podcasts, seems to get what Marisa's going through. But she has no idea who he is - or does she?

Another great Susane Colasanti book! When I heard about Waiting For You, I was really excited, as I absolutely love When It Happens (there actually happens to be a quote from it on the walls of my school in the English department) and Take Me There is a favorite as well. This was a fun read that kept me reading rather quickly. I predicted the ending right away, but it was still a lot of fun to read how it would come to that conclusion.

I really liked Marissa's character, I felt she had elements that relate to all sorts of people which draws you in even more if you connect with the character. Nash was another really well written character, he was just so sweet. Some of the others characters I felt where a little too true to stereotypes.

The setting was another thing that really drew you into the story, the setting of the high school was actually believable. In some books with high school settings, you think, "That's not what high schools really like." Plus the message sent is really cute, which is you should appreciate what you have rather than hoping for the next "thing" which if it happens, may not surpass what you had to begin with.

I love the cover, it's perfect for the plot of the book.

This is definately a great summer read!

Charlotte Usher feels practically invisible at school, and then one day she really is invisible. Even worse: she's dead. And all because she choked on a gummy bear. But being dead doesn't stop Charlotte from wanting to be popular; it just makes her more creative about achieving her goal.

If you thought high school was a matter of life or death, wait till you see just how true that is. In this satirical, yet heartfelt novel, Hurley explores the invisibility we all feel at some times and the lengths we'll go to be seen.

First off, I'd just like to say this is probably the coolest book I've ever seen! The hardcover is awesome! The lining of the pages are silver, with cool designs on every page. Plus the cover, is like a coffin with the shadow of the main character. It's also a unique size, which just adds more to it!

Tonya Hurley's Ghostgirl was a fun read with a great plot! While some of the characters were rather stereotypical, it was still great to read about Charlotte and her "quest to popularity" even when she's dead. The basis of the plot was an original placed within today's high school setting.

Charlotte, the main character, got on my nerves some of the time, she needed to get over herself. But that's just part of the story.

With her debut novel, Tonya Hurley definately put a new spin on that of the afterlife.

Waiting On Wednesday (5) - The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols

I'm officially done with school on Friday, and I'll make sure to get all my reviews and updates done hopefully this weekend! I've been crazy busy finishing up with the end of the year and with finals.

48HBC Update #1

Ok so last night I only read for half an hour then crashed a little after midnight.
Now I've been reading for another hour and a half so I'm up to 2 hours.

I finished Waiting For You by Susane Colasanti (Review up soon.) Next I'm planning on reading Ghostgirl and Ghostgirl: Homecoming and The Top 10 Uses For An Unworn Prom Dress.


I'm attempting to hit at least 20 hours group, so 18+ to go :)

I really enjoyed reading this one! It was action packed and just held your attention. It was really well written, especially the most emotional scenes. The plot has all sorts of twists and turns, some you definately don't expect. Dru was a really strong main character, while being realistic in the sense that she has her flaws. I love Christophe too, he was a really well written character. From the first page he was introduced, I he really just caught my attention.

Definately a book to read and I cannot wait until Betrayals is released this November!
